Let's travel together on your road to recovery!
There are as many pathways to recovery as there are individuals seeking them. Each and every person is the expert in their own story with the ability to define their unique path forward.
Kootenay Recovery exists to offer you the support and guidance you need — whether it's through coaching or counselling —
to restore balance to your life.
Recovery coaching is a collaborative approach used to support anyone interested in recovery. Together, we identify, remove and overcome obstacles to your recovery goals. I serve as a guide and recovery companion, working with you to develop the resources you need to find and maintain your recovery, while bolstering your natural support network. As a coach, I am your motivator, ally, advocate, and confidant, who uses my lived experience to sit beside you and listen, as we explore your options to achieve your desired change. I do not use theoretical psychology models, or create treatment plans/interventions for problematic thought patterns or behaviors.
Addiction counselling provides the mental, emotional, and behavioral health services individuals need to recover from drug and alcohol misuse, gambling, sex, and other behavioral issues. As your counsellor, I work alongside you to help identify maladaptive thoughts and behaviors which have contributed to or caused the addiction. We then work to replace these dysfunctional, negative thoughts and behaviors with positive coping mechanisms in a bid to achieve a reduction in use or complete abstinence. Counselling involves creating treatment plans with the ability to address other contributing mental factors such as anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma.
“What is addiction, really? It is a sign, a signal, a symptom of distress. It is a language that tells us about a plight that must be understood.”
-Alice Miller Breaking Down the Wall of Silence
“Most people are afraid of suffering. But suffering is a kind of mud to help the lotus flower of happiness grow. There can be no lotus flower without the mud.”
-Thich Nhat Hanh No Mud, No Lotus
“Addiction is any repeated behavior, substance-related or not, in which a person feels compelled to persist, regardless of its negative impact on their life and the lives of others.”
-Gabor Mate, M.D. In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts
